Dr. Lee Francis IV (Laguna Pueblo), self-described indiginerd poet, educator, activist, comic creator and owner of Native Realities Press, co-owner of Red Planet Books & Comics, and founder of Indigenous ComicCon, generously sat down with us for a comprehensive and wide-ranging interview on why he started these businesses, the current state of affairs for #Indigenous #comics, and how he attempts to #decolonize the comics medium. Lee's creative enterprises also provide an antidote to the "sidekickery" that #Native characters are usually relegated to in comics and other mediums by creating binders of skilled Native artists and writers that he hopes will get mainstream comics publishers away from using Indigenous creators as lip service consultants and instead, provide these makers with an equal seat at the table. "We want to be able to write our own stories. Tell them in the way we tell them," Lee says. Listen today, share with friends, and feel inspired.

Expert Extra #18: Susan Bordo, author of The Destruction of Hillary Clinton
Friday Jun 29, 2018
Friday Jun 29, 2018
Susan Bordo, cultural historian, #feminist scholar, and author of The Destruction of Hillary Clinton, which we recommended last year, generously sat down with us for a comprehensive and wide-ranging interview on what happened in the 2016 presidential election, the problem of James Comey, Trump's lack of "pivoting," and how to sustain ourselves as the low points go lower and power keeps reinforcing itself. The discussion also covers questions of clarity in our #activism and the complicity of the media, how Susan helps her college students through this moment of despair, her work as a public intellectual, and what she is working on next. Spend this hour with us and feel validated and refreshed.

Friday Dec 22, 2017
In this special end of 2017 episode, we share our very first collaborative podcast roundtable with our friends, Kevin Mahoney and Sean Kitchen, over at Raging Chicken Radio's Out d'Coup Podcast. Our passionate discussion covers recent allegations of sexual misconduct in Pennsylvania state government and the need to hold the PA Democratic Party accountable for its role in perpetuating a culture of repressive sexism. We also delve into inequitable power structures and why it is necessary to flip the script and start believing women who are speaking out about sexual harassment, sexual assault, and toxic sexist culture. We end our discussion on note of hope and a list of women candidates running for office in 2018 and what you can do to fight unbalanced power structures in your own life and networks.
Be sure to check out Raging Chicken's Out d'Coup podcast and consider donating to support their important, independent, progressive work in Pennsylvania. These structures don't change themselves, so we are all in this together!
